Workshop Title: Raising bicultural/bilingual children in a multicultural society

Presenters will discuss their personal experiences in raising
bilingual/bicultural children in the US. They will share their
experiences in designing and implementing workshops for
the Brazilian immigrant community in the Bay Area. Designed
to encourage families to maintain their home language,
these workshops also addressed issues of language
status, cultural ambivalence and home language loss. Participants
will learn about community outreach strategies,
effective home/school connections and parent/teacher
communication strategies.
